Welcome to Sierra School
Sierra School is a wonderful and exciting educational community. Located in the heart of El Dorado County we overlook our county seat, the city of Placerville. Sierra is one of the oldest schools in the county and has maintained a fine tradition of educational excellence since 1953. Seeking to continually meet the needs of our students, we have improved our campus with recent new construction projects that include a 40 station computer lab, a library, a state of the art kitchen and a stage/classroom for band instruction.
Our talented and nurturing staff is dedicated to providing the best possible learning experiences and environment for each of our students. Some of our educational programs include a flexible reading program, full day kindergarten, GATE, band, before school Early Birds classes for English Learners, Math and Reading, Fine Arts Mini Experience classes, cross country team, Sierra Singers, SDC class, Resource programs, New Morning counseling services, weekly preschool story time and much, much more.
At Sierra we encourage our families to become shareholders in the process and consequently reap the rewards of informed and involved parents and guardians. We are also fortunate to be surrounded by a caring and accessible community in which we involve our students through numerous activities and experiences.
If you would like more information about Sierra or our district please call our office or stop by for a visit.
Sincerely,
Natalie Miller

Welcome to Sierra School
A Shared Leadership Community
How Does A Shared Leadership Work?
Shared Leadership communities use a
systematic process involving collaborative and informed decision-making
to transform an entire school rather focusing on a particular grade,
curriculum, or approach to teaching.
The transformation begins with the
entire school community taking a deep look into its present situation
through a process called taking stock.
The entire school community then
forges a shared vision of what it wants Sierra School to become. By
comparing the vision to its present situation, the school community
identifies priority challenge areas.
Teams then set out to address those
priority challenge areas, working together through a shared leadership
governance structure and analyzing their challenge areas using the
inquiring process- a systematic method that helps school communities
clearly understands problems, find and implement solutions, and assess
their results.
Challenge Area Teams:
Parents, Teachers, Staff, and Community Members meet bi-monthly to work
on priority challenge areas.
Leadership Team:
Challenge Area Team facilitators commit to serve a 2 year term and
become part of the Leadership Team. The Leadership Team meets monthly to
provide guidance and maintain the integrity of the Shared Leadership
system.
Site Council: The
Site Council meets monthly to manage our school-improvement funds. The
council is comprised of parents, administration, and staff members
representing each of the Challenge Area teams.
School Community:
Students, teachers, support staff, administration, parents, families,
and community members. |
