Schnell Elementary School is pleased to provide your children After School Enrichment Classes!
After school enrichment activities strengthen student’s self-esteem by exposing them to experiences and activities beyond the regular curriculum. Children who are in after school programs over their lifetime consistently have improved test scores in school and better than average social skills.
There are classes available in Fall, Winter and Spring. Please click links below to see what is now available for your child. Please contact Kim Kahn at 530-622-6244 extension 6614 for more information.
Winter Session registration begins December 3 and ends December 21. Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Early registration is recommended. Registration forms are located in the school office, or you can print forms from this site. Registration is not complete and counted until all forms/payments are turned in.
For students who have previously studied Spanish, this new after school enrichment class will help your child expand their vocabulary and speaking skills, read and write simple Spanish sentences and learn about the customs and culture of Spanish-speakers. Studies have shown that children who have learned a second language at a young age increased problem-solving skills and creativity.
When:Class begins Thursday, January 17 from 3:15-4:15pm
How Long: Class is every Thursday for six weeks. Dates are 1/17, 1/24, 1/31, 2/7, 2/14, 2/21

In this new after school enrichment class, students will design a wide range of interesting art creations utilizing paint, drawing materials, paper mache and printmaking patterns. Your child will explore their creative side while enhancing problem solving skills, confidence and patience in a fun and non-competitive environment.
When: Class begins Wednesday, January 16 from 3:15-4:15pm
How Long: Class is every Wednesday for six weeks. Dates are 1/16, 1/23, 1/30, 2/6, 2/13, 2/20

Who: Jessica Foley-Sanchez, Art and Yearbook Design Instructor at Markham Middle School
In this popular after school enrichment class, your child will learn the basic principles of coding using Legos bricks and easy-to-use software to make abstract objects come to life. Students will collaborate to solve problems and turn ideas into real models that can be innovated upon while developing and improving their 21st century learning skills.
When: Class begins Tuesday, January 15 from 3:15-4:15 p.m.
How Long: Class is every Tuesday for six weeks. Dates are: 1/15, 1/22, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12, 2/19

In this popular after school enrichment class, your child will learn the basic principles of programming and coding using an innovative Sphero SPRK+® robot and Legocreations. These hands-on activities will allow your child to collaborate with other users around the globe and foster a love of robotics and new technology.
Where:Room 3C and the center of Pod 3
Who: Chris Tillisch, 4th grade teacher at Schnell Elementary
In this new after school enrichment class, your child will learn the basics of Spanish (colors, numbers, vocabulary) through visual aids, practical conversation, learning games and spelling activities in a fun and interactive way! Children who have learned a foreign language show greater cognitive development in mental flexibility, creativity, reasoning, and problem solving.
When: Class begins Tuesday, January 15 from 3:15-4:15 pm.

This new after school enrichment class will introduce kids to yoga through movement, mindfulness, fun and games. Yoga poses and breathing exercises will help children to disconnect from distractions and connect with themselves – while increasing confidence and a healthy self-image.
